Backlinks are arguably the most important ranking factor, and it contributes to the general sense of uncertainty that surrounds the management of backlinks. Unlike some other disciplines, Google has been far ahead in its backlink discovery ideas and its place in its search engine optimization toolbox. Let’s see how you want to remove a link and how to do it.
Why Disavow link? (Disavow Meaning)
The only use case set by Google for link malfeasance is to address the penalties imposed against your web property. If you receive a message from Google about “unnatural links” in your webmaster tools, you are being punished whether you are making a deliberate complaint or not.
Part of being a webmaster addresses Google’s penalties as they come. If you stick to white hat SEO, this should not be an issue, but knowing how to keep a clean backlink profile is important to your long term SEO strategy.

What is a bad backlink?
The vast majority of organic backlinks are “good backlinks” – they represent the ideal Internet that Google is striving for, where good content is often and freely referenced. Most of them don’t really move the needle for your site, but they are slowly building your reputation as a dependable, authoritative resource.
On the other hand, “bad backlinks” are almost always inorganic (although there are exceptions). Two of the biggest culprits are links that can be purchased from shady SEO sites and deliberate backlinking schemes, which use a private backlink network (PBN). Here are Google’s guidelines on “link schemes”.
It is also possible to get a link “organically” from one of those ultra spam-looking sites that only list products and links with real products. The link is probably not placed by a human, and it is definitely not giving your site a benefit, so they are also safe.
Negative SEO attack
Bad backlinks are also the subject of a particularly dishonest tactic known as a negative SEO attack. At this point, not everyone with the best knowledge of SEO wants to buy hundreds or thousands of backlinks as this will definitely lead to a fine on your site. Instead, you can attack your rivals by purchasing all those backlinks and pointing them at your opponent’s domain, ensuring that they can get punished.
The only recourse for the victim of a negative SEO attack is to destroy all links that target their site.
When to delete/Disavow links?
If it is not already clear, do not remove the backlink on what you are doing. This is a fairly serious action that can affect your search ranking for better or worse.
Google considers this an absolute last option. It is packaged under Webmaster Tools> Advanced. And there are actually 3 warning screens you can upload a disavowal file before clicking through.
In general, you should just leave a link that you know is bringing you down. See the Google Quality Guidelines for a more detailed list.
Note that a link to a low-traffic or low domain authority site is not a bad link. It probably doesn’t contribute much personally, but every link to your site is a vote of confidence that Google takes into account.
So what exactly does a link disavow?
This is a request for Google to ignore those links from your domain. If the link break is successful, it will not be counted against or for you when determining ranking in search results.
Google is not obligated to honor your request for link disapproval; They specifically state in their documentation that submitting a disco file is a “suggestion”. However, in the same content, they describe it as a tool to fix bad linking practices or undo the bad SEO work you hire, so you can link them to links instead of being punitive. One can expect to respect dissolution.
Is it possible to undo a link disavow?
Yes maybe It is possible that the previously uploaded file you deleted will be deleted, but it is unclear whether Google keeps a copy of the list and whether they immediately restore the link and their impact on your ranking. For this reason, it is a bad idea to experiment with link dissolved to manipulate search rankings.
How to Disavow Links in Google Search Console?
Everyone who places a Google Analytics tracking tag on their website has access to Google’s search console tool, which keeps track of the site’s linking structure.
You can audit a link from the link report page of the search console. Click the large “Export External Links” button at the top right of the screen and select “More Sample Links”. Export it as the file type of your choice.
Once you determine which links you want to remove, you will need to list them in a text file (* .txt) to be submitted to the Google Discou tool. There is a very specific format that you need to follow, but it is quite simple:
Each entry must be on a separate line
Each entry must begin with “domain:” (without quotation marks)
The filename is insignificant.
Following these rules, here are some example entries you can find in a specific list:
Blacklisting the entire domain will save you the tedium of listing each URL specifically. In addition, there are some instances in which you want to remove a link from a site, but still allow other links from that domain.
Go to Google Disavow Tool and click through all the warning signs until you are allowed to browse your folders and choose the file to upload. Select the disavow file you have already created, and select Open to upload to the disavow tool.
Within the next day or so, Google will no longer take the listed domains into consideration when determining the ranking of your pages.
Link quickly and easily with SEMrush
The above process seems very simple until you realize that we have skipped the difficult part – identifying bad backlinks.
We know the signs of a bad backlink, but Google only shows you a list of domains and how many times you’ve been linked to them when you run an external link report. There is no information that can help you determine if the link is worth keeping.
The only way to know this is to look at each domain yourself, which is not possible for most sites. Even a small site will accumulate thousands of backlinks after a few years. Even if you look at obvious spam sites, it can be impossible to know if a site is part of PBN or otherwise disliked by Google.
